World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) 2011

To mark World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2011, the National Centre for the Protection of Older People (NCPOP), in collaboration with the Health Service Executive (HSE) and the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (INPEA) hosted a conference entitled 'Open your Eyes' on Wednesday 15th June at University College Dublin.
The conference was opened by Ms. Kathleen Lynch T.D., Minister for Disability, Equality, Mental Health and Older People. The programme included keynote speaker Prof. Mary Gilhooly, Executive Director of the Brunel Insitute for Ageing Studies, London, delivering a paper on Detecting and Preventing Financial abuse of Older Adults. Other speakers on the day included representatives from the NCPOP, HSE and INPEA; and Prof. John Horgan, Press Ombudsman for Ireland.
